About the Board of Elections and Registration

The Board of Elections is responsible for conducting fair and impartial elections. Elections and registration are
conducted in accordance with the Georgia Election code, State Election Board Rules, Federal and Local Laws.
The Evans County Board of Commissioners appoints an Election Director who is responsible for conducting
fair and impartial elections and registering local residents to vote. Elections and registration are conducted in
accordance with the Georgia Election code, U.S. Justice Department Regulations, State Election Board Rules,
Federal and Local Laws.

The Board of Elections consists of three members appointed by the Evans County Board of Commissioners.
The Board registers eligible voters and maintains all records of registered voters pertaining to their designated
districts and voting precincts for City and County elections. This office issues absentee ballots, conducts early
voting and oversees voting on election day. The Board ensures that all services and functions necessary to
support the election process are performed.

The Election Director conducts primaries and elections in accordance with State law.  The Election Director
secures facilities to serve as polling locations for these precincts, recruits, selects, hires, trains and assigns
personnel to serve as poll officials. The Director also conducts qualification for candidates, develops ballots for
elections, acquires, maintains, prepares and delivers equipment used to conduct elections, publicizes notices as
required by law and maintains elections records.

Georgia law (O.C.G.A § 21-2-417) requires Georgia residents to show photo identification when voting
in person. Acceptable forms of I.D. include:
